Abdullah bin Harith reported,

I asked him about the two units of prayer after Asr, and he said,Abdullah bin Abbas and I entered upon Muawiya, and Muawiya said, "Ibn Abbas, you have mentioned the two units of prayer after Asr. It has reached me that some people are praying them, yet we never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray them, nor did he command them."Ibn Abbas replied, "That is something the people derive from Ibn Zubayr's practice."Then Ibn Zubayr came, and Muawiya asked, "What are these two units of prayer that the people follow you in?"Ibn Zubayr said, "Ayesha told me about them from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So Muawiya sent two men to Ayesha with this message, "The Commander of the Faithful sends you greetings of peace and asks, what are these two units of prayer that Ibn Zubayr claims you instructed him to perform after Asr?"Ayesha said, "That is what Umm Salama informed me about."So we went in to Umm Salama and told her what Ayesha had said. She replied, "May Allah have mercy on her. Did I not inform her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden them?"

حدثنا عبيدة قال حدثني يزيد بن أبي زياد

عن عبد الله بن الحارث قال

سألته عن الركعتين بعد العصر فقال دخلت أنا وعبد الله بن عباس على معاوية فقال معاوية يا ابن عباس لقد ذكرت ركعتين بعد العصر وقد بلغني أن أناسا يصلونها ولم نر رسول الله ﷺ صلاهما ولا أمر بهما قال فقال ابن عباس ذاك ما يقضي الناس به ابن الزبير قال فجاء ابن الزبير فقال ما ركعتان قضى بهما الناس فقال ابن الزبير حدثتني عائشة عن رسول الله ﷺ قال فأرسل إلى عائشة رجلين أن أمير المؤمنين يقرأ عليك السلام ويقول ما ركعتان زعم ابن الزبير أنك أمرتيه بهما بعد العصر قال فقالت عائشة ذاك ما أخبرته أم سلمة قال فدخلنا على أم سلمة فأخبرناها ما قالت عائشة فقالت يرحمها الله أولم أخبرها أن رسول الله ﷺ قد نهى عنهما
