By the One I swear by, Ali was indeed the last of people to be with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.She said, "We visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ morning after morning, and he kept asking, 'Has Ali come?' several times." She said, "I think he had sent him on some errand."She continued, "Then Ali came afterward, and I thought he had some matter to discuss with him, so we left the house and sat by the door. I was the closest of them to the door. Ali leaned over him and began whispering to him in confidence. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away that very day, so he was the last of people to be with him."
حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد وسمعته أنا من عبد الله بن محمد بن أبي شيبة قال حدثنا جرير بن عبد الحميد عن مغيرة عن أم موسى
والذي أحلف به إن كان علي لأقرب الناس عهدا برسول الله ﷺ قالت عدنا رسول الله ﷺ غداة بعد غداة يقول جاء علي مرارا قالت وأظنه كان بعثه في حاجة قالت فجاء بعد فظننت أن له إليه حاجة فخرجنا من البيت فقعدنا عند الباب فكنت من أدناهم إلى الباب فأكب عليه علي فجعل يساره ويناجيه ثم قبض رسول الله ﷺ من يومه ذلك فكان أقرب الناس به عهدا
