The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura.He asked, "What is this day on which you fast?"They replied, "This is a blessed day. It is the day Allah saved the Children of Israil from their enemy, so Musa fasted it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have a greater claim to Musa than you do."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasted that day and ordered that it be fasted.

قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة فرأى اليهود يصومون يوم عاشوراء فقال ما هذا اليوم الذي تصومون قالوا هذا يوم صالح هذا يوم نجى الله بني إسرائيل من عدوهم قال فصامه موسى قال قال رسول الله ﷺ أنا أحق بموسى منكم قال فصامه رسول الله ﷺ وأمر بصومه
