Urwa bin Zubayr reported that Ayesha informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to test the believing women who emigrated to him by means of this verse, the words of Allah the Exalted, "O Prophet, when the believing women come to you pledging to you that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit unlawful sexual intercourse, nor kill their children, nor bring forth a slander they have invented between their arms and legs, nor disobey you in what is right, then accept their pledge and ask forgiveness for them from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful" [Mumtahanah 60:12].Urwa bin Zubayr said that Ayesha said, "Whichever of the believing women accepted this condition, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say to her, 'I have accepted your pledge,' speaking the words only. By Allah, his hand never touched the hand of any woman during the pledge. He took their pledge solely by saying, 'I have accepted your pledge on that.'"
