The Prophet of Allah ﷺ came to me and said, "I am going to put a matter to you, and there is no need for you to rush. Take time to consult your parents."I asked, "What is this matter?"She said, "He then recited to me, 'Prophet, say to your wives: If you desire the life of this world and its adornment, come, I shall provide for you and release you in a handsome manner. But if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then indeed Allah has prepared for the good-doers among you a great reward' [Ahzab 33:28–29]."She said, "I replied, 'About which of these would you have me consult my parents? Rather, I desire Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter.'"She said, "The Prophet ﷺ was delighted and pleased by this, and he said, 'I will put to your companions what I have put to you.'"He said the same to them as he had said to Ayesha, then he would add, "Ayesha has chosen Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter."Ayesha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us this choice, and we did not consider it a divorce."
حدثنا كثير بن هشام قال حدثنا جعفر قال سألت الزهري عن الرجل يخير امرأته فتختاره قال حدثني عروة بن الزبير
أتاني نبي الله ﷺ فقال إني سأعرض عليك أمرا فلا عليك أن لا تعجلي حتى تشاوري أبويك فقلت وما هذا الأمر قالت فتلا علي {يا أيها النبي قل لأزواجك إن كنتن تردن الحياة الدنيا وزينتها فتعالين أمتعكن وأسرحكن سراحا جميلا وإن كنتن تردن الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة فإن الله أعد للمحسنات منكن أجرا عظيما} قالت فقلت وفي أي ذلك تأمرني أن أشاور أبوي بل أريد الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة قالت فسر بذلك النبي ﷺ وأعجبه وقال سأعرض على صواحبك ما عرضت عليك فكان يقول لهن كما قال لعائشة ثم يقول قد اختارت عائشة الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة قالت عائشة فقد خيرنا رسول الله ﷺ فلم نر ذلك طلاقا
