While Abdul-Malik was performing tawaf around the House, he said, "May Allah destroy Ibn Zubayr for lying about Umm Muiminin. He claims that he heard her say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Ayesha, were it not for the fact that your people are recent in their abandonment of disbelief, I would have made an opening in the House.'" My father said, the Ansari said, "I would have demolished the House and added to it from the Hijr, for your people fell short in its construction."Harith bin Abdullah bin Abu Rabia said, "Do not say this, Commander of the Believers, for I myself heard Umm Muiminin narrate this very thing."Abdul-Malik replied, "Had I heard this before I demolished it, I would have left it on the construction of Ibn Zubayr."

أن عبد الملك بينما هو يطوف بالبيت إذ قال قاتل الله ابن الزبير حيث يكذب على أم المؤمنين يقول سمعتها وهي تقول إن رسول الله ﷺ قال يا عائشة لولا حدثان قومك بالكفر لنقبت البيت قال أبي قال الأنصاري لنقضت البيت حتى أزيد فيه من الحجر فإن قومك قصروا عن البناء فقال الحارث بن عبد الله بن أبي ربيعة لا تقل هذا يا أمير المؤمنين فأنا سمعت أم المؤمنين تحدث هذا فقال لو كنت سمعت هذا قبل أن أهدمه لتركته على بناء ابن الزبير
