I am the most knowledgeable person regarding this hadith. He said, word reached Marwan that Abu Hurayrah was narrating from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that whoever is overtaken by dawn while in a state of major ritual impurity should not fast that day. So Marwan sent me to Ayesha to ask her about this, and I went along with him.He asked her, and she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would enter the morning in a state of major ritual impurity, not from a wet dream, and then he would fast."He returned to Marwan and informed him. Marwan said, "Go to Abu Hurayrah and tell him."He replied, "He is my neighbor, and I dislike confronting him with something he would dislike."Marwan said, "I insist that you go to him."So he met him and said, "Abu Hurayrah, by Allah, I disliked confronting you with something you would dislike, but the governor insisted."He said, so I told him, and Abu Hurayrah replied, "Fadl narrated it to me."
حدثنا إسماعيل قال أخبرنا أيوب عن عكرمة بن خالد
إني لأعلم الناس بهذا الحديث قال بلغ مروان أن أبا هريرة يحدث عن رسول الله ﷺ أنه من أدركه الصبح وهو جنب فلا يصومن يومئذ فأرسل إلى عائشة يسألها عن ذاك فانطلقت معه فسألها فقالت كان رسول الله ﷺ يصبح جنبا من غير احتلام ثم يصوم فرجع إلى مروان فحدثه فقال الق أبا هريرة فحدثه فقال إنه لجاري وإني لأكره أن أستقبله بما يكره فقال أعزم عليك لتلقينه قال فلقيه فقال يا أبا هريرة والله إن كنت لأكره أن أستقبلك بما تكره ولكن الأمير عزم علي قال فحدثته فقال حدثنيه الفضل
