I had recently converted from Christianity, and I wanted to go out for jihad or for hajj. So I went to a man from my people called Hudaym and asked him about it, and he instructed me to perform hajj. I then combined hajj and umrah together, and he mentioned it.

كنت حديث عهد بنصرانية فأردت الجهاد أو الحج فأتيت رجلا من قومي يقال له هديم فسألته فأمرني بالحج فقرنت بين الحج والعمرة فذكره

Its isnad is sahih, and it is a repetition of 254. Hudaym is with a diminutive form, though it is also said to be Udaym, with a hamza instead of the ha. See Isabah 1:103. In Sunan Abu Dawud he is named Hudaym bin Tharmalah, but it is stated in Awn al-Mabud 2:92-93, "This is how it appears in some copies, but it is a mistake, for he is Hudaym bin Abdullah, as in the narration of Nasai, and this is likewise stated by Ibn Makula, Ibn Athir, Ibn Hajar, and others."
