The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and said, "I am going to put a matter to you, and you need not be hasty about it until you consult your parents."I asked, "What is this matter?"She said, He then recited to me, "Prophet, say to your wives, 'If you desire the life of this world and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and release you in a handsome manner. But if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward.'" [Ahzab 33:28–29]Ayesha said, I replied, "About which of these would you have me consult my parents? I want Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter."She said, the Prophet ﷺ was delighted by this and pleased, and he said, "I shall put to your companions what I have put to you."I said to him, "Do not tell them what I have chosen."But he did not do that. He said to each of them what he had said to Ayesha, then added, "Ayesha has chosen Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter."Ayesha said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us the choice, but we did not consider it a divorce.
حدثنا كثير بن هشام قال حدثنا جعفر بن برقان قال سألت الزهري عن الرجل يخير امرأته فتختاره قال حدثني عروة بن الزبير
أتاني رسول الله ﷺ فقال إني سأعرض عليك أمرا فلا عليك أن لا تعجلي فيه حتى تشاوري أبويك فقلت وما هذا الأمر قالت فتلا علي {يا أيها النبي قل لأزواجك إن كنتن تردن الحياة الدنيا وزينتها فتعالين أمتعكن وأسرحكن سراحا جميلا وإن كنتن تردن الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة فإن الله أعد للمحسنات منكن أجرا عظيما} قالت عائشة فقلت وفي أي ذلك تأمرني أشاور أبوي بل أريد الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة قالت فسر بذلك النبي ﷺ وأعجبه وقال سأعرض على صواحبك ما عرضت عليك قالت فقلت له فلا تخبرهن بالذي اخترت فلم يفعل وكان يقول لهن كما قال لعائشة ثم يقول قد اختارت عائشة الله ورسوله والدار الآخرة قالت عائشة قد خيرنا رسول الله ﷺ فلم نر ذلك طلاقا
