The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down one night during Ramadan and prayed in the mosque, and some people prayed behind him. He came down again on the second night, and more people joined him. On the third night, the numbers grew even larger. When it was the fourth night, the mosque was packed with people, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not come down.The people remarked about this, saying, "What is the matter with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he has not come down?"He heard what they said, and when morning came he addressed them, "People, I heard what you said. Nothing prevented me from coming down to you except my fear that the night prayer of this month would be made obligatory upon you."
حدثنا يزيد أنا سفيان يعني ابن حسين عن الزهري عن عروة
نزل رسول الله ﷺ فصلى في المسجد ذات ليلة في رمضان وصلى خلفه ناس بصلاته ثم نزل الليلة الثانية فكانوا أكثر من ذلك ثم كثروا في الليلة الثالثة فلما كانت الليلة الرابعة غص المسجد بأهله فلم ينزل رسول الله ﷺ فقالوا في ذلك ما شأن رسول الله ﷺ لم ينزل فسمع مقالتهم فلما أصبح قال يا أيها الناس إني قد سمعت مقالتكم وإنه لم يمنعني أن أنزل إليكم إلا مخافة أن يفترض عليكم قيام هذا الشهر
