I used to hear that no prophet dies until he is given a choice between this world and the hereafter. Then I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying during the illness in which he died, when his voice had grown hoarse, "With those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions" [Nisa 4:69].So I realized that he was being given the choice at that moment.Rawh said, He was given the choice between this world and the hereafter.

كنت أسمع أنه لن يموت نبي حتى يخير بين الدنيا والآخرة قال فسمعت النبي ﷺ يقول في مرضه الذي مات فيه وأخذته بحة يقول {مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين وحسن أولئك رفيقا} قالت فظننت أنه خير حينئذ قال روح إنه خير بين الدنيا والآخرة
