On the day of Badr, when the Prophet ﷺ gave orders concerning that group of corpses, and Utbah, Abu Jahl, and their companions had been thrown into the well, he stood over them and said, "May Allah repay you with evil on behalf of a prophet's people. How wicked was your driving me out, and how severe was your rejection."The companions asked, "Messenger of Allah, how can you speak to a people who have become rotting carcasses?"He replied, "You are no more able to understand my words than they are," or, "They understand my words better than you do."
