Ayesha reported,

Abu Bakr sought permission to visit the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was with him under a single cloak. Ayesha said, "He gave him permission, and Abu Bakr discussed his need with him while I was still with him under the cloak, then he left.Then Umar sought permission, and he gave him permission, and Umar discussed his need with him in that same state, then he left.Then Uthman sought permission, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ adjusted his clothing and sat up properly, then Uthman discussed his need with him and left."Ayesha continued, "I said to him, 'Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr sought permission to enter and you attended to his need in that state of yours, then Umar sought permission and you attended to his need in that state, then Uthman sought permission and it seemed you became reserved.'He replied, 'Uthman is a man of modesty, and I feared that if I admitted him in that state, he would not be able to discuss his need with me.'"

حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال أخبرنا معمر عن الزهري عن يحيى بن سعيد بن العاص عن أبيه

عن عائشة قالت

استأذن أبو بكر على رسول الله ﷺ وأنا معه في مرط واحد قالت فأذن له فقضى إليه حاجته وهو معي في المرط ثم خرج ثم استأذن عليه عمر فأذن له فقضى إليه حاجته على تلك الحال ثم خرج ثم استأذن عليه عثمان فأصلح عليه ثيابه وجلس فقضى إليه حاجته ثم خرج فقالت عائشة فقلت له يا رسول الله استأذن عليك أبو بكر فقضى إليك حاجته على حالك تلك ثم استأذن عليك عمر فقضى إليك حاجته على حالك ثم استأذن عليك عثمان فكأنك احتفظت فقال إن عثمان رجل حيي وإني لو أذنت له على تلك الحال خشيت أن لا يقضي إلي حاجته
