Zakwan, the freed slave of Ayesha, reported that he heard Ayesha say, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a young woman whose family wishes to marry her off, whether her consent should be sought or not."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Her consent must be sought."Ayesha said, "I said to him, 'But she feels shy and remains silent.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Her silence is her consent."

قال ذكوان مولى عائشة سمعت عائشة تقول سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن الجارية ينكحها أهلها أتستأمر أم لا فقال لها رسول الله ﷺ تستأمر قالت عائشة فقلت له فإنها تستحي فتسكت فقال رسول الله ﷺ فذلك إذنها إذا هي سكتت
