They both narrated to him that Abu Bakr sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was lying on his bed wearing Ayesha's cloak. He granted Abu Bakr permission while remaining in that state, and Abu Bakr presented his need to him and then left. Then Umar sought permission, and he granted him permission while still in that same state. Umar presented his need to him and then left. Then Uthman came and sought permission to enter, so the Prophet ﷺ sat up and said to Ayesha, "Gather your garments around you." Uthman presented his need to him and then left.Ayesha said, "Messenger of Allah, why is it that I did not see you become concerned for Abu Bakr and Umar as you did for Uthman?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Uthman is a modest man, and I feared that if I permitted him to enter while I was in that state, he would not be able to convey his need to me."Layth said, the people generally relate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ayesha, "Should I not feel modesty before one whom the angels feel modesty before?"
