He asked, "Which of the two recitations was the later one, the recitation of Abdullah or the recitation of Zayd?"We replied, "The recitation of Zayd."He said, "No. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite the Quran to Jibreel once every year, and in the year in which he passed away, he recited it to him twice. The last recitation was the recitation of Abdullah."
حدثنا محمد بن سابق حدثنا إسرائيل عن إبراهيم بن مهاجر عن مجاهد
قال أي القراءتين كانت أخيرا قراءة عبد الله أو قراءة زيد قال قلنا قراءة زيد قال لا إلا أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يعرض القرآن على جبرائيل كل عام مرة فلما كان في العام الذي قبض فيه عرضه عليه مرتين وكانت آخر القراءة قراءة عبد الله
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah is Ibn Masud, and Zayd is Ibn Thabit. The hadith is in Majma al-Zawaid 9:288, where it says, "Ahmad and Bazzar reported it, and the men of Ahmad's chain are the men of the Sahih." He also noted that part of it is found in the Sahih, referring to what has already passed at 2042.
