Ayesha reported,

My nephew, I witnessed something astonishing in how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ honored his uncle. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to suffer from a sharp pain in his side that would grow severe. We used to say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been seized by the kidney vein," for we did not know to call it pleurisy.Then one day it seized the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and grew so severe that he fell unconscious. We feared for him, and the people rushed to him in alarm. We thought he had pleurisy, so we administered medicine into the side of his mouth.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to and regained consciousness. He realized that he had been given the medicine and felt traces of it in his mouth. He said, "Did you suppose that Allah would let this illness overpower me? Allah would never let it overpower me. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, no one in this house shall remain without having that medicine forced into the side of his mouth, except my uncle."So I saw them administering it to them one by one.Ayesha said, recalling who was in the house that day and their merit, that all the men were given the medicine, and it reached the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, so each woman was given it, one after another, until it reached one of our women.Ibn Abu Zinad said, "I do not know her to be anyone but Maymuna."He said, "And some people said it was Umm Salama."She said, "By Allah, I am fasting."We replied, "What an evil thought, that we would leave you when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has sworn an oath." So we administered it to her, by Allah, my nephew, and she was indeed fasting.

حدثنا سليمان بن داود قال أخبرنا عبد الرحمن عن هشام بن عروة قال أخبرني أبي أن

عائشة قالت

له يا ابن أختي لقد رأيت من تعظيم رسول الله ﷺ عمه أمرا عجيبا وذلك أن رسول الله ﷺ كانت تأخذه الخاصرة فيشتد به جدا فكنا نقول أخذ رسول الله ﷺ عرق الكلية لا نهتدي أن نقول الخاصرة ثم أخذت رسول الله ﷺ يوما فاشتدت به جدا حتى أغمي عليه وخفنا عليه وفزع الناس إليه فظننا أن به ذات الجنب فلددناه ثم سري عن رسول الله ﷺ وأفاق فعرف أنه قد لد ووجد أثر اللدود فقال ظننتم أن الله عز وجل سلطها علي ما كان الله يسلطها علي والذي نفسي بيده لا يبقى في البيت أحد إلا لد إلا عمي فرأيتهم يلدونهم رجلا رجلا قالت عائشة ومن في البيت يومئذ فتذكر فضلهم فلد الرجال أجمعون وبلغ اللدود أزواج النبي ﷺ فلددن امرأة امرأة حتى بلغ اللدود امرأة منا قال ابن أبي الزناد لا أعلمها إلا ميمونة قال وقال بعض الناس أم سلمة قالت إني والله صائمة فقلنا بئسما ظننت أن نتركك وقد أقسم رسول الله ﷺ فلددناها والله يا ابن أختي وإنها لصائمة
