Ibn Abbas asked, "Do you know how vast Hell is?"I replied, "No."He said, "Indeed, by Allah, you do not know. Between the earlobe of one of its inhabitants and his shoulder is a distance of seventy years' travel, through which flow valleys of pus and blood."I asked, "Rivers?"He said, "No, rather valleys."Then he said, "Do you know how vast Hell is?"I replied, "No."He said, "Indeed, by Allah, you do not know. Ayesha told me that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about His statement, 'And the earth entirely will be within His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand' [Zumar 39:67]. She said, 'Where will the people be on that Day, Messenger of Allah?' He answered, 'They will be upon the bridge over Hell.'"
حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسحاق الطالقاني قال حدثنا ابن المبارك وعلي بن إسحاق قال أخبرنا عبد الله عن عنبسة بن سعيد عن حبيب بن أبي عمرة
قال ابن عباس أتدري ما سعة جهنم قلت لا قال أجل والله ما تدري أن بين شحمة أذن أحدهم وبين عاتقه مسيرة سبعين خريفا تجري فيها أودية القيح والدم قلت أنهارا قال لا بل أودية ثم قال أتدرون ما سعة جهنم قلت لا قال أجل والله ما تدري حدثتني عائشة أنها سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن قوله {والأرض جميعا قبضته يوم القيامة والسموات مطويات بيمينه} فأين الناس يومئذ يا رسول الله قال هم على جسر جهنم
