Ishaq bin Saeed reported,

It has reached me that Ayesha said, "I never eavesdropped on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except once. Uthman came to him at high noon, and I thought he had come to him about a matter concerning women, so jealousy drove me to listen in. I heard him say, 'Allah will clothe you in a garment, and my community will demand that you take it off. Do not take it off.'"She said, "When I saw Uthman granting them everything they asked for except removing it, I knew that this was part of the covenant the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had entrusted to him."

إسحاق بن سعيد عن أبيه قال

بلغني أن عائشة قالت ما استمعت على رسول الله ﷺ إلا مرة فإن عثمان جاءه في نحر الظهيرة فظننت أنه جاءه في أمر النساء فحملتني الغيرة على أن أصغيت إليه فسمعته يقول إن الله عز وجل ملبسك قميصا تريدك أمتي على خلعه فلا تخلعه فلما رأيت عثمان يبذل لهم ما سألوه إلا خلعه علمت أنه من عهد رسول الله ﷺ الذي عهد إليه
