Ayesha reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you not see that when your people rebuilt the Kaabah, they fell short of the foundations laid by Ibrahim ?"Ayesha said, "I asked, 'Messenger of Allah, will you not restore it to the foundations of Ibrahim?'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Were it not for the recent transition of your people from disbelief, I would do so."Abdullah bin Umar said, "By Allah, if Ayesha truly heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then I see no reason why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refrained from touching the two corners adjacent to the Hijr except that the House had not been completed upon the foundations of Ibrahim . He wished for people to be able to make their circumambulation include the entire House, going around the area beyond the foundations of Ibrahim as well."

حدثنا إبراهيم بن أبي العباس قال حدثنا أبو أويس عن الزهري عن سالم بن عبد الله أن عبد الله بن محمد بن أبي بكر الصديق أخبر عبد الله بن عمر

عن عائشة قالت

قال رسول الله ﷺ ألم تري إلى قومك حين بنوا الكعبة اقتصروا عن قواعد إبراهيم عليه السلام قالت قلت يا رسول الله أفلا تردها على قواعد إبراهيم قال رسول الله ﷺ لولا حدثان قومك بالكفر قال عبد الله بن عمر فوالله لئن كانت عائشة سمعت ذلك من رسول الله ﷺ ما أرى رسول الله ﷺ ترك استلام الركنين اللذين يليان الحجر إلا أن البيت لم يتمم على قواعد إبراهيم عليه السلام إرادة أن تستوعب الناس الطواف بالبيت كله من وراء قواعد إبراهيم عليه السلام
