Ayesha reported,

I was with the Prophet ﷺ when he said, "Ayesha, if only we had someone here to keep us company in conversation."I said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I send for Abu Bakr?"He remained silent. Then he said again, "If only we had someone here to keep us company in conversation."I said, "Shall I send for Umar?"He remained silent. Then he called for a young servant standing before him and whispered to him, and the boy went off.Soon Uthman came asking permission to enter. The Prophet granted him permission, and he came in. The Prophet ﷺ conversed with him privately at length, then said, "Uthman, Allah is going to clothe you in a garment. If the hypocrites try to make you take it off, do not take it off for them, never grant them that honor."He said this to him two or three times.

عن عائشة قالت

كنت عند النبي ﷺ فقال يا عائشة لو كان عندنا من يحدثنا قالت قلت يا رسول الله ألا أبعث إلى أبي بكر فسكت ثم قال لو كان عندنا من يحدثنا فقلت ألا أبعث إلى عمر فسكت قالت ثم دعا وصيفا بين يديه فساره فذهب قالت فإذا عثمان يستأذن فأذن له فدخل فناجاه النبي ﷺ طويلا ثم قال يا عثمان إن الله عز وجل مقمصك قميصا فإن أرادك المنافقون على أن تخلعه فلا تخلعه لهم ولا كرامة يقولها له مرتين أو ثلاثا
