When the Prophet ﷺ fell ill, his companions came in to visit him. They stood, but he gestured for them to sit down. After he had completed his prayer, he said, "The imam is to be followed. When he says the takbir, say the takbir. When he bows, bow. When he prays sitting, pray sitting. When he prays standing, pray standing."
حدثنا أسود حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن هشام عن أبيه
لما مرض النبي ﷺ دخل عليه أصحابه يعودونه فقاموا فأومأ إليهم أن اقعدوا فلما قضى صلاته قال الإمام يؤتم به فإذا كبر فكبروا وإذا ركع فاركعوا وإذا صلى قاعدا فصلوا قعودا وإذا صلى قائما فصلوا قياما
