A captive was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and I became distracted from watching him, so he escaped. When the Prophet ﷺ returned, he asked, "What happened to the captive?"I replied, "I was distracted by talking with the women, and he got away."He went out and said, "What is wrong with you? May Allah cut off your hand," or "your hands."He then left and announced it to the people, who searched for the captive and brought him back. The Prophet ﷺ came in and found me turning my hands over and over.He asked, "What is wrong with you? Have you lost your mind?"I said, "You prayed against me, so I am turning my hands over to see which of them will be cut off."He praised Allah and extolled Him, then raised his hands wide and said, "Allah, I am only a human being. I get angry just as humans get angry. So whichever believing man or believing woman I have prayed against, make it a means of purification and cleansing for them."
