The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would carry out the punishment of amputation for theft of a quarter of a Dinar or more.

Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is found in Abu Dawud 4/136 no. 4383, and Tirmidhi 3/3 no. 1445, both in the chapter on legal punishments, on how much is stolen for the hand to be cut off. And with wording close to it, in Bukhari 12/96 no. 6789, and Muslim 3/1312 no. 1684, both also in the chapter on legal punishments.
