When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill in the house of Maymunah, he asked his wives for permission to be nursed in my house, and they granted him permission. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out, leaning on Abbas and another man, with his feet dragging along the ground.Ubaydullah said that Ibn Abbas remarked, "Do you know who that other man was? It was Ali bin Abu Talib, but Ayesha did not feel comfortable mentioning him."Zuhri reported that while the Prophet ﷺ was in the house of Maymunah, he said to Abdullah bin Zama, "Tell the people to pray."Abdullah went out and met Umar bin Khattab and said, "Umar, lead the people in prayer."So Umar led them in prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard his voice and recognized it, for Umar had a loud voice. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Is this not the voice of Umar?"They replied, "Yes."He said, "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, refuses that, and so do the believers. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer."Ayesha said, "Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man who cannot control his tears, and when he recites the Quran he weeps."He said, "I only said what I said because I disliked that the people might blame Abu Bakr for being the first to stand in the place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer."I pressed him again, and he said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. You are like the women who surrounded Yusuf."
حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن معمر عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله
لما مرض رسول الله ﷺ في بيت ميمونة فاستأذن نساءه أن يمرض في بيتي فأذن له فخرج رسول ﷺ معتمدا على العباس وعلى رجل آخر ورجلاه تخطان في الأرض وقال عبيد الله فقال ابن عباس أتدري من ذلك الرجل هو علي بن أبي طالب ولكن عائشة لا تطيب لها نفسا قال الزهري فقال النبي ﷺ وهو في بيت ميمونة لعبد الله بن زمعة مر الناس فليصلوا فلقي عمر بن الخطاب فقال يا عمر صل بالناس فصلى بهم فسمع رسول الله ﷺ صوته فعرفه وكان جهير الصوت فقال رسول الله ﷺ أليس هذا صوت عمر قالوا بلى قال يأبى الله جل وعز ذلك والمؤمنون مروا أبا بكر فليصل بالناس قالت عائشة يا رسول الله إن أبا بكر رجل رقيق لا يملك دمعه وإنه إذا قرأ القرآن بكى قال وما قلت ذلك إلا كراهية أن يتأثم الناس بأبي بكر أن يكون أول من قام مقام رسول الله ﷺ فقال مروا أبا بكر فليصل بالناس فراجعته فقال مروا أبا بكر فليصل بالناس إنكم صواحب يوسف
