Alqama bin Rumana reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Amr bin As to Bahrain. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on a military expedition and we went out with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dozed off and said, "May Allah have mercy on Amr."We began discussing among ourselves everyone we knew by the name Amr. The Messenger of Allah dozed off again and said, "May Allah have mercy on Amr." Then he dozed off a third time, woke up, and said, "May Allah have mercy on Amr."We asked, "Messenger of Allah, who is this Amr?"He replied, "Amr bin As."We asked, "What about him?"He said, "Whenever I called the people to give charity, he would come and give generously from it, so I would ask him, 'Amr, where did you get this?' He would answer, 'From Allah.' Amr has spoken truly, for indeed he has with Allah much good."Zuhayr bin Qays said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, I said to myself, 'I will stay close to this man about whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that he has with Allah much good, until I die.'"

حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق: أخبرنا ليث بن سعد عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب، عن سويد بن قيس، عن زهير بن قيس البلوي،

عن علقمة بن رمنة:

أن رسول الله ﷺ بعث عمرو بن العاص إلى البحرين، فخرج رسول الله ﷺ في سرية وخرجنا معه، فنعس رسول الله ﷺ. فقال: يرحم الله عمرا قال: فتذاكرنا كل من اسمه عمرو، قال: فنعس رسول الله، فقال: يرحم الله عمرا قال: ثم نعس الثالثة، فاستيقظ، فقال: يرحم الله عمرا فقلنا: يا رسول الله، من عمرو هذا؟ قال: عمرو بن العاص قلنا: وما شأنه؟ قال: كنت إذا ندبت الناس إلى الصدقة، جاء فأجزل منها، فأقول: يا عمرو، أني لك هذا؟ قال: من عند الله. وصدق عمرو، إن له عند الله خيرا كثيرا. قال زهير ابن قيس: لما قبض رسول الله ﷺ قلت: لألزمن هذا الذي قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن له عند الله خيرا كثيرا حتى أموت.
