Arqam reported,

He came to the Messenger of Allah and greeted him.The Messenger of Allah asked, "Where are you headed?"He replied, "Messenger of Allah, I intend to go there," gesturing with his hand toward Bayt al-Maqdis.The Messenger of Allah asked, "What is taking you there, trade?"He said, "I said, 'No, but I wanted to pray there.'"The Messenger of Allah said, "A prayer here," gesturing with his hand toward Makkah, "is better than a thousand prayers there," gesturing with his hand toward Sham.

عن جده الأرقم

أنه جاء إلى رسول الله، فسلم عليه، فقال: أين تريد؟ قال: أردت يا رسول الله هاهنا - وأوما بيده إلى حيث بيت المقدس. قال: ما يخرجك إليه، أتجارة؟ قال: قلت: لا، ولكن أردت الصلاة فيه. قال: فالصلاة هاهنا وأوما إلى مكة بيده خير من ألف صلاة. وأوما بيده إلى الشام.
