We went out on a military expedition under the command of Amr bin As, and severe hunger struck us. We passed by some people who had just slaughtered a camel, so I said to them, "Let me prepare it for you in exchange for giving me some of it." Ibrahim's version says, "...so that you give me some of it."I prepared it, then took what they had given me and brought it to Umar bin Khattab, but he refused to eat it. Then I brought it to Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah, and he said the same thing Umar bin Khattab had said and refused to eat it.Later, after that, I was sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Conquest of Mecca, and he said, "Are you the one with the camel?"I replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said nothing more to me beyond that.
