The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:"There was a king among those who came before you, and he had a sorcerer. When the sorcerer grew old, he said to the king, 'I have grown old and my time is near, so send me a boy whom I may teach sorcery.' So the king sent him a boy, and he began teaching him sorcery.Between the sorcerer and the king there lived a monk. The boy passed by the monk and listened to his words, and he was impressed by his way and his speech. Whenever he came to the sorcerer, the sorcerer would beat him and ask, 'What kept you?' And whenever he came to his family, they would beat him and ask, 'What kept you?' He complained of this to the monk, who said, 'When the sorcerer wants to beat you, say, My family kept me. And when your family wants to beat you, say, The sorcerer kept me.'While things were like this, one day he came upon an enormous, terrifying beast that had blocked the road so that people could not pass. He said, 'Today I shall know whether the matter of the monk is more beloved to Allah or the matter of the sorcerer.' He took a stone and said, 'O Allah, if the matter of the monk is more beloved to You and more pleasing to You than that of the sorcerer, then kill this beast so that the people may pass.' He threw the stone, killed the beast, and the people went on their way.He told the monk about this, and the monk said, 'My son, you are now better than I, and you will surely be tested. If you are tested, do not point them to me.'The boy began to heal the blind, the lepers, and all manner of ailments. A companion of the king who had become blind heard about him and came to him with many gifts. He said, 'Heal me, and all that is here is yours.' The boy replied, 'I do not heal anyone. It is only Allah who heals. If you believe in Him and I supplicate to Allah, He will heal you.' So the man believed, the boy supplicated for him, and Allah healed him.Then the man came and sat with the king as he used to sit. The king said to him, 'So-and-so, who restored your sight to you?'He replied, 'My Lord.'The king said, 'I did?'He said, 'No, but my Lord and your Lord, Allah.'The king said, 'Do you have a lord besides me?'He said, 'Yes.'The king kept torturing him until he pointed him to the boy. So he sent for the boy and said, 'My son, your sorcery has reached such a point that you can heal the blind and the leper and these ailments?'The boy said, 'I do not heal anyone. None heals except Allah .'The king said, 'I do?'He said, 'No.'The king said, 'Do you have a lord besides me?'He said, 'Yes, my Lord and your Lord is Allah.'So the king seized him with torture as well, and continued until he pointed him to the monk. The monk was brought, and the king said, 'Renounce your religion.' He refused. So the king placed a saw on the parting of his head and split him in two halves.Then he said to the blind man, 'Renounce your religion.' He refused. So he placed the saw on the parting of his head and split him in two halves until they fell to the ground.Then he said to the boy, 'Renounce your religion.' He refused. So he sent him with a group of men to such-and-such a mountain and said, 'When you reach its summit, if he renounces his religion, well and good. Otherwise, throw him down from the top.' They took him, and when they had ascended the mountain with him, he said, 'O Allah, suffice me against them however You will.' The mountain quaked beneath them and they all tumbled down.The boy came walking back until he entered upon the king, who said, 'What happened to your companions?'He said, 'Allah sufficed me against them.'So the king sent him with a group in a small ship and said, 'When you reach the deep sea with him, if he renounces his religion, well and good. Otherwise, drown him.' They went out into the deep sea, and the boy said, 'O Allah, suffice me against them however You will.' They all drowned.The boy came walking back until he entered upon the king, who said, 'What happened to your companions?'He said, 'Allah sufficed me against them.'Then he said to the king, 'You will not be able to kill me until you do what I command you. If you do what I command you, you will kill me. Otherwise, you cannot kill me.'The king said, 'And what is it?'He said, 'Gather the people on an open plain, then crucify me on a tree trunk and take an arrow from my quiver. Then say, In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy. If you do that, you will kill me.'So he did it. He placed the arrow in the bow's center, then shot it, saying, 'In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy.' The arrow lodged in the boy's temple. The boy placed his hand on the spot of the arrow and died.The people said, 'We believe in the Lord of the boy.'It was said to the king, 'Do you see what you used to fear? By Allah, it has befallen you. The people have all believed.' So he ordered that trenches be dug at the openings of the roads, fires be kindled in them, and said, 'Whoever renounces his religion, let him go. Otherwise, throw him in.'The people were rushing and pushing one another into them. Then a woman came carrying her infant whom she was nursing, and she hesitated to fall into the fire. The child said, 'Mother, be patient, for you are upon the truth.'"

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال كان ملك فيمن كان قبلكم وكان له ساحر فلما كبر الساحر قال للملك إني قد كبرت سني وحضر أجلي فادفع إلي غلاما فلأعلمه السحر فدفع إليه غلاما فكان يعلمه السحر وكان بين الساحر وبين الملك راهب فأتى الغلام على الراهب فسمع من كلامه فأعجبه نحوه وكلامه فكان إذا أتى الساحر ضربه وقال ما حبسك وإذا أتى أهله ضربوه وقالوا ما حبسك فشكا ذلك إلى الراهب فقال إذا أراد الساحر أن يضربك فقل حبسني أهلي وإذا أراد أهلك أن يضربوك فقل حبسني الساحر وقال فبينما هو كذلك إذ أتى ذات يوم على دابة فظيعة عظيمة وقد حبست الناس فلا يستطيعون أن يجوزوا فقال اليوم أعلم أمر الراهب أحب إلى الله أم أمر الساحر فأخذ حجرا فقال اللهم إن كان أمر الراهب أحب إليك وأرضى لك من الساحر فاقتل هذه الدابة حتى يجوز الناس ورماها فقتلها ومضى الناس فأخبر الراهب بذلك فقال أي بني أنت أفضل مني وإنك ستبتلى فإن ابتليت فلا تدل علي فكان الغلام يبرئ الأكمه وسائر الأدواء ويشفيهم وكان جليس للملك فعمي فسمع به فأتاه بهدايا كثيرة فقال اشفني ولك ما هاهنا أجمع فقال ما أشفي أنا أحدا إنما يشفي الله عز وجل فإن أنت آمنت به فدعوت الله فشفاك فآمن فدعا الله له فشفاه ثم أتى الملك فجلس منه نحو ما كان يجلس فقال له الملك يا فلان من رد عليك بصرك فقال ربي قال أنا قال لا لكن ربي وربك الله قال أولك رب غيري قال نعم فلم يزل يعذبه حتى دله على الغلام فبعث إليه فقال أي بني قد بلغ من سحرك أن تبرئ الأكمه والأبرص وهذه الأدواء قال ما أشفي أنا أحدا ما يشفي غير الله عز وجل قال أنا قال لا قال أولك رب غيري قال نعم ربي وربك الله فأخذه أيضا بالعذاب فلم يزل به حتى دل على الراهب فأتى بالراهب فقال ارجع عن دينك فأبى فوضع المنشار في مفرق رأسه حتى وقع شقاه وقال للأعمى ارجع عن دينك فأبى فوضع المنشار في مفرق رأسه حتى وقع شقاه في الأرض وقال للغلام ارجع عن دينك فأبى فبعث به مع نفر إلى جبل كذا وكذا فقال إذا بلغتم ذروته فإن رجع عن دينه وإلا فدهدهوه من فوقه فذهبوا به فلما علوا به الجبل قال اللهم اكفنيهم بما شئت فرجف بهم الجبل فدهدهوا أجمعون وجاء الغلام يتلمس حتى دخل على الملك فقال ما فعل أصحابك فقال كفانيهم الله عز وجل فبعثه مع نفر في قرقور فقال إذا لججتم به البحر فإن رجع عن دينه وإلا فغرقوه فلججوا به البحر فقال الغلام اللهم اكفنيهم بما شئت فغرقوا أجمعون وجاء الغلام يتلمس حتى دخل على الملك فقال ما فعل أصحابك قال كفانيهم الله عز وجل ثم قال للملك إنك لست بقاتلي حتى تفعل ما آمرك به فإن أنت فعلت ما آمرك به قتلتني وإلا فإنك لا تستطيع قتلي قال وما هو قال تجمع الناس في صعيد ثم تصلبني على جذع فتأخذ سهما من كنانتي ثم قل بسم الله رب الغلام فإنك إذا فعلت ذلك قتلتني ففعل ووضع السهم في كبد قوسه ثم رمى فقال بسم الله رب الغلام فوضع السهم في صدغه فوضع الغلام يده على موضع السهم ومات فقال الناس آمنا برب الغلام فقيل للملك أرأيت ما كنت تحذر فقد والله نزل بك قد آمن الناس كلهم فأمر بأفواه السكك فخددت فيها الأخدود وأضرمت فيها النيران وقال من رجع عن دينه فدعوه وإلا فأقحموه فيها قال فكانوا يتعادون فيها ويتدافعون فجاءت امرأة بابن لها ترضعه فكأنها تقاعست أن تقع في النار فقال الصبي يا أمه اصبري فإنك على الحق
