Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on his journey, appointing Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin Husayn bin Utbah bin Khalaf al-Ghifari as his deputy over Medina. He departed on the tenth of Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasted, and the people fasted with him, until he reached al-Kadid, a watering place between Usfan and Amaj, where he broke his fast. He then continued on until he camped at Marr az-Zahran with ten thousand Muslims.
حدثنا يعقوب قال حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق قال فحدثني محمد بن مسلم الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة
ثم مضى رسول الله ﷺ لسفره واستخلف على المدينة أبا رهم كلثوم بن حصين بن عتبة بن خلف الغفاري وخرج لعشر مضين من رمضان فصام رسول الله ﷺ وصام الناس معه حتى إذا كان بالكديد ماء بين عسفان وأمج أفطر ثم مضى حتى نزل بمر الظهران في عشرة آلاف من المسلمين
