A group of riders stopped before Uthman bin Affan and began praising and commending him. Miqdad bin Aswad was present, so he took a handful of dirt and threw it in the faces of the riders. He said, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, 'When you hear those who heap praise, throw dirt in their faces.'"
حدثنا يحيى عن وائل بن داود قال سمعت
أن ركبا وقفوا على عثمان بن عفان فمدحوه وأثنوا عليه وثم المقداد بن الأسود فأخذ قبضة من الأرض فحثاها في وجوه الركب فقال قال نبي الله ﷺ إذا سمعتم المداحين فاحثوا في وجوههم التراب
Its isnad is sahih. Waail bin Dawud Tamimi is trustworthy, his hadith appearing in the Sunan and in Bukhari's Adab. Abdullah Bahi is Ibn Yasar, and he is trustworthy, his hadith appearing in Muslim and the four Sunan. The hadith has already appeared at 23714.
