Saeed bin al-As sent a delegation from Iraq to Uthman. When they arrived, they began praising him, so Miqdad started throwing dirt in their faces and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to throw dirt in the faces of those who heap praise."Sufyan once said that Miqdad stood up and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Throw dirt in the faces of those who heap praise.'"Zubayr said, "As for Miqdad, he has fulfilled his duty."
حدثنا سفيان عن ابن أبي نجيح
أن سعيد بن العاص بعث وفدا من العراق إلى عثمان فجاءوا يثنون عليه فجعل المقداد يحثو في وجوههم التراب وقال أمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نحثو في وجوه المداحين التراب وقال سفيان مرة فقام المقداد فقال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول احثوا في وجوه المداحين التراب قال الزبير أما المقداد فقد قضى ما عليه
