I went in to see Ibn Abbas in the house of Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, on the morning following Friday. Maymunah had bequeathed the house to him, and whenever he had finished the Friday prayer, a seat would be spread out for him there, then he would proceed to it and sit in it to receive people.A man asked him, while I was listening, about performing ablution on account of food touched by fire.Ibn Abbas raised his hand to his eyes, for he had lost his sight, and said, "These two eyes of mine saw it. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution for the noon prayer in one of his chambers. Then he called Bilal to the prayer and rose to go out. When he stood at the door of the chamber, he was met by a gift of bread and meat that one of his companions had sent him. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned with those who were with him, and the food was placed before them in the chamber. He ate and they ate with him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose along with those who were with him for the prayer, and neither he nor any of those with him touched water. Then he led them in prayer."Ibn Abbas had only retained from the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ practice what came at the end of his life.
