Abu Ayub took part in a military campaign against the Romans and fell ill. When death drew near, he said, "If I die, carry me with you, and when you meet the enemy in battle, bury me beneath your feet. I will now tell you something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which I would not have told you were it not for my present condition. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.'"
