The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pray witr with five rakahs. If you are not able, then with three. If you are not able, then with one. If you are not able, then indicate it with a gesture."
حدثنا يزيد حدثنا سفيان بن حسين عن الزهري عن عطاء بن يزيد الليثي
قال رسول الله ﷺ أوتر بخمس فإن لم تستطع فبثلاث فإن لم تستطع فبواحدة فإن لم تستطع فأومئ إيماء
Its isnad is sahih, and it is found in Ibn Abu Shayba 2/295, no. ..., and Tahawi in Sharh Maani 1/291. Haythami said in 2/241, "The men of Ahmad's narration are the men of the Sahih."
