Abu Ayub reported,

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, the Ansar drew lots to determine which of them would host the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Ayub won the draw and so hosted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whenever food was given as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a portion would be sent to Abu Ayub.One day, Abu Ayub came in and found a bowl containing onions.He asked, "What is this?"They replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent it back."So Abu Ayub went up to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, what kept you from eating from this bowl?"He answered, "I saw onions in it."Abu Ayub asked, "Are onions forbidden to us?"He replied, "No, eat them. But I receive what does not come to you."Haywa's version reads, "What comes to me does not come to you."

عن أبي أيوب قال

لما قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة اقترعت الأنصار أيهم يؤوي رسول الله ﷺ فقرعهم أبو أيوب فآوى رسول الله ﷺ فكان إذا أهدي لرسول الله ﷺ طعام أهدي لأبي أيوب قال فدخل أبو أيوب يوما فإذا قصعة فيها بصل فقال ما هذا فقالوا أرسل به رسول الله ﷺ قال فاطلع أبو أيوب إلى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله ما منعك من هذه القصعة قال رأيت فيها بصلا قال ولا يحل لنا البصل قال بلى فكلوه ولكن يغشاني ما لا يغشاكم وقال حيوة إنه يغشاني ما لا يغشاكم
