Abu Burda reported,

I sat with an elderly companion of the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque of Kufa, and he related to me, saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," or he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'People, turn in repentance to Allah and seek His forgiveness, for I myself turn in repentance to Allah and seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day.'"I said, "O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness," twice.He said, "It is exactly as I am telling you."

حدثنا إسماعيل حدثنا يونس عن حميد بن هلال

عن أبي بردة قال

جلست إلى شيخ من أصحاب النبي ﷺ في مسجد الكوفة فحدثني فقال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ أو قال قال رسول الله ﷺ يا أيها الناس توبوا إلى الله واستغفروه فإني أتوب إلى الله وأستغفره كل يوم مائة مرة فقلت اللهم إني أستغفرك اثنتان قال هو ما أقول لك
