Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla reported,

Hudhayfah asked a Persian landowner, or perhaps a non-Arab man, for water to drink. The man brought it to him in a silver vessel, so Hudhayfah threw it at him. Then he turned to the people and offered an apology, saying, "I only did that to him deliberately because I had forbidden him from this before. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from wearing brocade and silk, and from using vessels of gold and silver, and he said, 'They are for them in this world, and they are for us in the hereafter.'"
