I went out with Hudhayfah to some part of this Sawad region, and he asked for a drink. A local chief brought him a vessel of silver, and Hudhayfah threw it in his face.We said to one another, "Be quiet, be quiet. If we ask him about it, he will not tell us anything."So we kept silent. After a while, he said, "Do you know why I threw it in his face?"We said, "No."He said, "I had forbidden him from doing this." Then he mentioned the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Do not drink from vessels of gold."Muaz said, "Do not drink from gold or silver vessels, and do not wear silk or brocade, for these are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
حدثنا محمد بن أبي عدي عن ابن عون عن مجاهد عن ابن أبي ليلى قال حدثنا ابن عون عن مجاهد
خرجت مع حذيفة إلى بعض هذا السواد فاستسقى فأتاه دهقان بإناء من فضة قال فرماه به في وجهه قال قلنا اسكتوا اسكتوا وإنا إن سألناه لم يحدثنا قال فسكتنا قال فلما كان بعد ذلك قال أتدرون لم رميت به في وجهه قال قلنا لا قال إني كنت نهيته قال فذكر النبي ﷺ قال لا تشربوا في آنية الذهب قال معاذ لا تشربوا في الذهب ولا في الفضة ولا تلبسوا الحرير ولا الديباج فإنهما لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
