Hudhayfah was in al-Madain when a Persian nobleman came to him with a silver cup. He took it and threw it at him, saying, "I only did this because I had forbidden him from doing so, but he did not stop. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me from drinking out of vessels of gold and silver, and from wearing silk and brocade. He said, 'These are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.'"
حدثنا عفان حدثنا شعبة حدثنا الحكم قال سمعت
أن حذيفة كان بالمدائن فجاءه دهقان بقدح من فضة فأخذه فرماه به وقال إني لم أفعل هذا إلا أني قد نهيته فلم ينته وإن رسول الله ﷺ يعني نهاني عن الشرب في آنية الذهب والفضة والحرير والديباج وقال هي لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
