The Prophet ﷺ met him on one of the streets of Medina and reached out toward him. He said, "I told him, 'I am in a state of major ritual impurity.'" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "The believer is not impure."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن مسعر حدثني واصل عن أبي وائل
أن النبي ﷺ لقيه في بعض طرق المدينة فأهوى إليه قال قلت إني جنب قال إن المؤمن لا ينجس
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy and well-known. Wasil is Ibn Hayan al-Ahdab. The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 1/282, no. 372, Abu Dawud, 1/59, no. 230, Tirmidhi, 1/208, no. 121, who said, hasan sahih, Nasai, 1/149, no. 268, and Ibn Majah, 1/178, no. 535, all of them in the chapter on purification, on shaking hands with someone in a state of major impurity.
