He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or he said, I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when a man came to him and asked, "Are you the Messenger of Allah?" or he said, "Are you Muhammad?"He replied, "Yes."The man asked, "What do you call people to?"He said, "I call them to Allah alone. He is the One who, when harm befalls you and you call upon Him, removes it from you. He is the One who, when a year of drought strikes you and you call upon Him, makes plants grow for you. He is the One who, when you are in a barren land and lose your way and you call upon Him, brings you back."The man became Muslim. Then he said, "Give me some advice, Messenger of Allah."He told him, "Do not revile anything," or he said, "anyone." Hakam was uncertain which.The man said, "I have never reviled anything since, not a camel nor a sheep, from the day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me that advice.""And do not think little of any kindness, even if it is only meeting your brother with a cheerful face while you speak with him. Pour from your bucket into the vessel of one who asks for water. Wear your lower garment to the middle of your shins, and if you will not, then to the ankles. Beware of letting your garment trail. That comes from arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance."
حدثنا أبو النضر حدثنا الحكم بن فضيل عن خالد الحذاء عن أبي تميمة
أنه أتى رسول الله ﷺ أو قال شهدت رسول الله ﷺ وأتاه رجل فقال أنت رسول الله أو قال أنت محمد فقال نعم قال فإلام تدعو قال أدعو إلى الله وحده من إذا كان بك ضر فدعوته كشفه عنك ومن إذا أصابك عام سنة فدعوته أنبت لك ومن إذا كنت في أرض قفر فأضللت فدعوته رد عليك قال فأسلم الرجل ثم قال أوصني يا رسول الله فقال له لا تسبن شيئا أو قال أحدا شك الحكم قال فما سببت شيئا بعيرا ولا شاة منذ أوصاني رسول الله ﷺ ولا تزهد في المعروف ولو ببسط وجهك إلى أخيك وأنت تكلمه وأفرغ من دلوك في إناء المستسقي واتزر إلى نصف الساق فإن أبيت فإلى الكعبين وإياك وإسبال الإزار قال فإنها من المخيلة والله لا يحب المخيلة
