During the caliphate of Umar bin Khattab he used to say that Uthman bin Affan would not die until he had been made caliph.We asked, "How do you know that?"He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Last night I saw in a dream that three of my companions were weighed. Abu Bakr was weighed and he proved the heavier. Then Umar was weighed and he proved the heavier. Then Uthman was weighed and he fell short, though he is a righteous man.'"
حدثنا أبو النضر حدثنا شيبان عن أشعث عن الأسود بن هلال
أنه كان يقول في خلافة عمر بن الخطاب لا يموت عثمان بن عفان حتى يستخلف قلنا من أين تعلم ذلك قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول رأيت الليلة في المنام كأن ثلاثة من أصحابي وزنوا فوزن أبو بكر فوزن ثم وزن عمر فوزن ثم وزن عثمان فنقص وهو صالح
