I said to Jundab, "I have given my pledge of allegiance to these people," meaning Ibn Zubayr, "and they want me to go out with them to Sham."He said, "Hold back from that."I said, "They refuse."He said, "Then ransom yourself with your wealth."I said, "They refuse anything except that I strike alongside them with the sword."Jundab said, "So-and-so told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The murdered man will come on the Day of Resurrection bringing his killer with him and will say, My Lord, ask this man why he killed me.'"Shuba said, "I think he said, 'Then He will say, Why did you kill him? He will reply, I killed him for the kingdom of so-and-so.'"Jundab said, "So beware of that."

قلت لجندب إني قد بايعت هؤلاء يعني ابن الزبير وهم يريدون أن أخرج معهم إلى الشام فقال أمسك عليك فقلت إنهم يأبون فقال افتد بمالك قال قلت إنهم يأبون إلا أن أضرب معهم بالسيف فقال جندب حدثني فلان أن رسول الله ﷺ قال يجيء المقتول بقاتله يوم القيامة فيقول يا رب سل هذا فيم قتلني قال شعبة وأحسبه قال فيقول علام قتلته قال فيقول قتلته على ملك فلان قال فقال جندب فاتقها
