The oath procedure existed in pre-Islamic times, the oath sworn in cases of bloodshed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ confirmed it just as it had been in the days before Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled by it in a case among some people of the Ansar from Banu Haritha concerning a killing that they claimed against the Jews.
