I came to Medina as a young man, wrapped in a striped grey cloak of mine that I was letting drag along the ground. A man caught up with me and poked me with a small staff he was carrying, then said, "If you lifted your garment, it would last longer and stay cleaner."I turned around, and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.I said, "Messenger of Allah, it is just a striped grey cloak."He replied, "Even if it is a striped grey cloak. Do you not have an example to follow in me?"So I looked at his lower garment, and it was above the ankles and below the calf muscle.
