I went out one day to take care of an errand, and there I was with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, walking ahead of me. He took me by the hand and we set off walking together. Before us was a man praying, performing many bowings and prostrations.The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you think he is showing off?"I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He let go of my hand, then brought his hands together and began lowering and raising them, saying, "You must follow a moderate way. You must follow a moderate way. You must follow a moderate way. For whoever pushes himself too hard in this religion will be overcome by it."
حدثنا إسماعيل حدثنا عيينة بن عبد الرحمن عن أبيه
خرجت ذات يوم لحاجة فإذا أنا بالنبي عليه الصلاة والسلام يمشي بين يدي فأخذ بيدي فانطلقنا نمشي جميعا فإذا نحن بين أيدينا برجل يصلي يكثر الركوع والسجود فقال النبي ﷺ أتراه يرائي فقلت الله ورسوله أعلم فترك يدي من يده ثم جمع بين يديه فجعل يصوبهما ويرفعهما ويقول عليكم هديا قاصدا عليكم هديا قاصدا عليكم هديا قاصدا فإنه من يشاد هذا الدين يغلبه
