Abdullah bin Mulah reported,

While I was traveling in al-Ahwaz, I came upon a man riding ahead of me on a mule. He was saying, "O Allah, the generation I belong to from this Ummah has passed away, so join me with them."I said, "And me, include me in your supplication."He said, "And this companion of mine, if he wishes that as well."Then he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The best of my Ummah is my generation, then those who follow them.'" The narrator said, "I do not know whether he mentioned a third or not." Then he continued, "Then there will come people among whom obesity appears, who give testimony before being asked for it."It turned out the man was Burayda al-Aslami.

حدثنا إسماعيل عن الجريري عن أبي نضرة

عن عبد الله بن مولة قال

بينما أنا أسير بالأهواز إذا أنا برجل يسير بين يدي على بغل أو بغلة فإذا هو يقول اللهم ذهب قرني من هذه الأمة فألحقني بهم فقلت وأنا فأدخل في دعوتك قال وصاحبي هذا إن أراد ذلك ثم قال قال رسول الله ﷺ خير أمتي قرني منهم ثم الذين يلونهم قال ولا أدري أذكر الثالث أم لا ثم تخلف أقوام يظهر فيهم السمن يهريقون الشهادة ولا يسألونها قال وإذا هو بريدة الأسلمي
