Abdullah bin Sarjas reported,

I saw the bald one, meaning Umar , kissing the Black Stone and saying, "I am kissing you knowing that you are only a stone that brings neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not kiss you."

رأيت الأصيلع يعني عمر رضي الله عنه يقبل الحجر ويقول إني لأقبلك وأعلم أنك حجر لا تنفع ولا تضر ولولا أني رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يقبلك لم أقبلك
