Sahl bin Saad reported,

Sahl was asked about the pulpit, from what kind of wood it was made.He said, "By Allah, I know exactly what wood it was made from, and I know who made it, and on what day it was crafted, and on what day it was set in place. I saw the Prophet ﷺ on the very first day he sat upon it.The Prophet ﷺ sent word to a woman who had a slave who was a carpenter, saying to her, 'Tell your carpenter slave to make me some wooden steps that I may sit upon when I address the people.' She instructed him, and he went to the forest, cut tamarisk wood, and fashioned the pulpit with three steps. She then sent it to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was placed in this spot that you see.He sat upon it the very first day it was set in place. He pronounced the takbir while upon it, then bowed, then stepped backwards down from it and prostrated, and the people prostrated along with him. Then he returned to the pulpit and continued until he finished. When he had concluded, he said, 'People, I have done this only so that you may follow me and learn how I pray.'"Sahl was then asked, "Was there really an incident concerning the palm trunk, as people relate?"He replied, "What happened with it did indeed happen."
